There are numerous studies – a selection can be found under “Links” – on the effects of using the abacus. They have clearly proven that this ancient calculator is a modern mental tool.
Let’s see how the abacus affects the intelligence of children?
The studies were conducted at major universities in Europe and Africa (University of Manchester, University of Khartoum, University of Ulster) involving 3,185 children aged 7 to 11. They showed that the IQ of children who completed the Mental Arithmetic program increased by 7.11 points compared to children who did not participate in the program.
